Admiral Osami Nagano
As Admiral Osami Nagano's duties would indicate, NAGANO was probably the most authoritative senior naval officer surviving the war. In common with most of the naval men of his background and experience, he expressed initial opposition to the war and to the Three Power Pact, and described the Army practice of service to personnel participating in politics.
NAGANO was thoroughly cooperative, was keenly alert and intelligent, and also seemed anxious to develop an American friendship. He understood English readily, but normally preferred discussion through an interpreter.
